David Price, now conducting a PhD at Cranfield University, has been presented with the award from CarbonStore. CarbonStore works with companies and landowners to offset their residual carbon emissions by planting diverse woodlands throughout the UK. This is done in partnership with Tilhill Forestry, a member of the BSW Group and the UK’s leading sustainable forestry and timber harvesting company.

The award, a specially carved wooden trophy along with £250 prize money, was presented by Alex MacKinnon, Carbon Project Manager at CarbonStore, to David at the School of Water, Energy and Environment (SWEE) prize giving ceremony at Cranfield University.

The Environmental Management for Business MSc course looks to equip students with advanced theoretical knowledge of sustainability issues and develop practical and professional skills to positively address these issues.

On accepting the award David Price, a graduate of MSc Environmental Management for Business at Cranfield University said:

“It was really exciting and an honour to be told I had been awarded the CarbonStore Top Student Award. My Master’s course at Cranfield was both interesting and rewarding. The work relating to this award, looking past the environmental marketing of products and assessing their actual impact, is often a real challenge for consumer and manufacturer alike and something I think is particularly important, so it is really rewarding to be recognised in this way.

“Awards like this are really appreciated and so it is great for all students to have the support of CarbonStore and Cranfield.”

As part of CarbonStore’s work to strengthen links with sustainability students, CarbonStore rewards top performing students at leading universities which offer Masters in sustainability and environmental related subjects. 2024 marks the third presentation of this award with Cranfield University.

Alex MacKinnon, CarbonStore’s Carbon Project Manager said:

“This is the third year of our awards programme in rewarding top students who are passionate about sustainability and it’s our pleasure to sponsor this ongoing award. The hard work and dedication put in by the top student is always inspiring and David has clearly been no exception to this.

“We commend his work in such an important yet challenging area, and rest assured that this dedication will see him well in further endeavours.”

CarbonStore is proud to connect with sustainability professionals of the future that are working to ensure businesses avoid negative environmental or social impacts wherever possible.

Alice Johnston, Course Director for Environmental Management for Business MSc at Cranfield University said:

“Cranfield is delighted that CarbonStore are recognising our Environmental Management for Business students for a third year with this award. The award promotes the need to champion sustainability issues across a range of sectors, which is a focal ambition of the Environmental Management for Business MSc.

“It is great to see David receive this well-deserved award in recognition of his hard work on the course.”
